Real Estate Broker/Agents Darren and Pam Etem

HUNTINGTON BEACH...This week we'll continue to get to know the people whose signs you may have seen on your neighborhood street corners that advertises an open house for sale or even who may have sold you your dream home in Huntington Beach.

We'll learn how a mouse brought Darren and Pam together to become top notch Realtors/Brokers. But first let's look at their early years before the happy couple met.

Darren was nearly a lifetime resident of Surf City USA, but for the fact that he was born in El Paso, Texas. Shortly after his birth, the family moved to Huntington Beach in 1960 and would receive his education here including Marina High School.

At an early age of 14 Darren got a job washing cars at the carwash at Warner Ave. and Beach Blvd. When he was 15 1/2 Darren went to work for Jack Haley at Captain Jacks.

After graduation from high school, Darren attended Golden West College where he learned the basics of marketing that would later find him working for a sporting goods company.

But before that he would attend both USC and the University of Phoenix.

Pam is a true native Californian, having been born in Whittier and attended La Serna High. It was in her youth that she fell in love with the theater arts and continues to attend theater events.

She got a job at Disneyland as Dopey, one of the seven dwarfs in Snow White and would meet children and get their hugs.

At this same time she met a member of Disneyland's softball team, a hippy-looking player with long hair and surfed the waves along California shores. He also drove a float in the park's nighttime Electrical Parade and his name was Darren Etem.

At first it was only an infatuation between the two, but in time that grew into a more serious relationship and marriage. They have been married 37 years and have three children, Nigel, Zak and Ben.

If Walt Disney hadn't created a mouse named Mickey, or built Disneyland the couple may have never met. But they did, all because of a little rodent named Mickey.

Pam would later become a flight attendant for Delta and Western Airlines and would fly around the country.

"It was during a flight layover in New York that I called her up in the early morning and told her to get up and look out the window. At first she didn't want too, but finally she did," said Darren. The date was September 11, 2001 and what Pam saw was the Twin Towers on fire.

During his early life, Darren invested in a piece of property in Big Bear and watched its value double in such a short time.

Pam received her real estate license and went to work for Star Real Estate, staying with them for ten years and Keller Williams for seven.

Later Darren received his license and sold property at Star and Keller Williiams. Pam and Darren have always done things a little differently than others, which never lent itself well to a traditional style real estate office.

So Darren and Pam formed their own company, The OC Real Estate as Associate Broker/Realtors with one of their sons at 17011 Beach Boulevard #900.

The couple enjoy working with both buyers who get their dream home or sellers getting a good price for their property. Together they have sold over 500 pieces of property. The couple have received many awards for their work in real estate.

When the couple find time they belong to LA Fitness and Pam enjoys Yoga. Darren is a member of the Elks Lodge. But their first love always is being with their family.
